Karaka Christmas Party

Over the last year, Party By Design, has been doing things a bit different, and definitely a bit bigger! With our biggest event being the Karaka Christmas Party.

I was approached by a local school in Karaka to be a part of their Christmas in Karaka: House and Garden Ramble. Local homes in close proximity were decorated in theme by various companies, all in the name of Charity for the local school.

I was designated the beautiful house of the Chitty Family, what started as a small play room styling turned into three areas around the property. The Chitty’s Home was also the venue for the large Country Market, and Luncheon. This is definitely the biggest event I had ever taken on and to start with I was certainly worried I had bitten off more than I could chew (I was also planning my own wedding). But as I never do anything in halves I jumped in boots and all.

I was given a theme and a bunch of colours and left to create something amazing on this untouched canvas! The property I was assigned was beautiful, tranquil, and had the perfect areas for me to create a Christmas Party wonderland! Not to mention the property was large which meant my little legs got a workout!

After a mammoth 11 hour set up, and many hours of creation time at home, I swear I’m still vacuuming up glitter from my lounge floor, three months on!I So if you have any little tricks or hacks to rid my carpet of the sparkle – let me know!

The first scene, and the one that oozed the most Christmas spirit, a place where little hands, can’t help but touch all the pretty and sparkling decorations, but hey, that’s what it all about,. The children’s area was a room with the theme of ‘The Grinch that stole Christmas”. At first I drew a blank on how to design this theme. So i did what every good parent does – Ask your 8 year old daughter what it’s all about and watch the movie. So my palate of colours was red, green and white.

I had so much fun creating this space, I put lots of focus on the smaller details, from the Santa Themed Milk Bottles, the Lolly Tree, Contrasting colours and patterns and of course the Advent Calendar Tree (I spent hours making these bags)!! But it was all worth it when it finally came together for what looked like an amazing Christmas Party I know I want an invite for. (Most of the Christmas Party Tableware can be found on our party supplies shop.

The second area, the kitchen was the next location and the place for the indoor Hot Chocolate stand for the kids and the sneaky adults who were feeling the joy and wanted a marshmallow!  I wanted this area to open the senses and for every person who walked past to taste and smell nothing but sweet sweet chocolate mmmmm

Lastly I set up this quaint and rustic feeling high tea on the covered porch. When I saw the venue I decided this was the perfect option to create a high tea picnic with pallets and cushions – something which has been on my want list for a long time!!

As I left the venue the clouds looked ominous, next minute, the skies opened, and boy oh boy did it rain that night.  Thankfully the property owners were onto it and pulled down and zipped the covers around the decking area….phew!! But the rain gods spoke and minutes before the gates opened the next day the sky cleared and opened up for a beautiful day.

I can’t wait for you all to (hopefully) ‘Like” and ‘Share” my vision and drop me an email or phone call so we can plan your next party, what about a fun mid winter Christmas party…..  See you all soon. xx
